It was announced on Thursday her CBS sci-fi series Extant had been renewed for a second series.

So it was no wonder that Halle Berry was sporting such a wide grin as she left a skincare salon in Hollywood on the very same day.

The star treated herself to a pampering session after hearing the good news and couldn't keep the smile off her face as she walked back to her car.

The 48-year-old beauty was dressed down for the occasion in faded jeans with a rip across one knee.

She added a pair of embroidered leather boots with gold buckle detailing and a casual sleeveless T-shirt.

Halle was sporting wavy hair extensions, which added extra length to her ombre tresses.

The down-to-earth Oscar-winner was happy to pose en route to her car in order to take a selfie with an eager fan.

Steven Spielberg produced series Extant is due to return to our screens next summer.

Proving she's still got what it takes to make heads turn, Halle Berry cut a sultry figure in a pair of denim shorts while out in Los Angeles.

Putting women half her age to shame, the 48-year-old actress rocked a laid back ensemble as she headed to the beauty salon for a pedicure.

Concealing her eyes behind a pair of aviator sunglasses, Halle wore her hair down in loose waves as she donned a fedora.

Teaming her thigh skimming shorts with a white vest top, Berry completed her look with a pair of grey flip flops as she showcased her flawless makeup free complexion..

Clutching onto a small of metallic gold polish, the Monster's Ball star looked eager to get into the salon for her appointment.

Once inside the salon, the mother-of-two, who married Olivier Martinez in July 2013, took a seat in a massage chair.

Last month it was revealed that Berry's role as mutant superhero Storm in the last four X-Men films may be recast in the upcoming sequel X-Men: Apocalypse.

Writer and producer Simon Kinberg dropped a casting bomb regarding the participation of Halle, Famke Janssen (Phoenix) and James Marsden (Cyclops) in the upcoming sequel.

'If we included some of the original X-Men like Storm and Jean and Scott and others in Apocalypse, yeah, we would have to recast them because Apocalypse takes place a good 20 years before X1, which now insanely was 10 to 15 years ago,' Kinberg told Yahoo Movies.

'Halle, Famke, and Jimmy and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life. It would be a tall task.'

X-tinct? The next chapter of X-Men, called Apocalypse, takes place a decade after Days of Future Past - meaning Halle Berry, Famke Jannsen, and James Marsden will likely not be reprising their mutant roles
