Halle Berry: The Life & Story of Angela Davis Is My ‘Passion Project’

Halle Berry has always been a hot topic of interest throughout the community. Her movie star good looks and Oscar winning performance have kept her in the spotlight for a long time.
However, Berry, 48 years old, is making waves in a different way this week. Sitting down with The Guarding, Berry said she would love to tell the story of Angela Davis in a biopic either on the big or small screen and we are hoping she is able to pull it off.

“[Davis’ story] has always been a passion of mine,” Berry said. “She’s just fascinating: the era she lived in, the Black Panthers and all that they stood for, and her connection to it, or not to it. I have a lot of respect for how she lived her life.
Angela Davis, 71 years old, is still alive, so maybe the two can speak and collaborate on bringing her story to the people.
Davis rose to iconic and infamous stature for her association with the Black Panther Party, her outspoken views against white supremacy, and her social activism. Even today, she continues the fight as a noted scholar, feminist and worldwide lecturer.
The first time we heard of Berry’s interest in playing the icon was in 2011 during an interview with Jet Magazine
I’ll probably never get to play it in my life and I am going to be sad until the day I die, but I really want to play Angela Davis badly. So badly. I just think she’s fascinating and I think I would love to tell a story from her perspective about that time in our history and what it was all about with the Black Panthers.
We are not sure if this role will ever come to be for Halle Berry, but think it would be a great feather in the cap of her storied acting career and something for generations to get to know a Lion of a woman in the fight for our equal rights.

SOUND OFF: Do you think Halle Berry would make a good Angela Davis? And do you want to see her tell this powerful woman’s story?
